Penetrate
by Caleb

Tonight it was pink.
Lighter than last night, a pale shade, almost white,
almost pure. Down around your knees, they are not so innocent,
panties twisted, legs kicking them free. Tonight it was pink,
lighter than last night. Last night, a shockingly bring pair.
She didn't know you owned anything so
scandalous. Neon, the color of her shoelaces, one undone,
one lost three blocks back, and her mother will be angry.
It's a new pair, and there's no money for another. Your back is arched,
her fingernails claw deep into the pavement as you muffle your screams with a pillow. Her cries are stifled by a rough hand,
nothing as soft as your skin against hers. A red river flows,
staining your sheets, staining the freshly fallen snow,
bright red against your skin, brown against the bed, black against the hard, cold pavement.
Her hands drenched, she digs deeper and deeper,
feels her skin tear apart,
feels the snow against her cheek,
feels your warmth,
feels nothing. Tonight it was pink,
lighter than last night, abandoned on the floor,
lost three blocks back as you both stumble home,
bleeding, stained, late, afraid of what mother will say.

Romans 10:9
by Caleb

Your eyes are brown every day. Today: coffee with a swirl of cinnamon. They laugh as tears spill forth.

You have a drink every night. Tonight: gin and tonic with an olive. You eat them straight from the jar, juice dripping from your fingers.

You keep secrets every year. This year: too many to hide. A life unborn, a love forbidden; they pour from your scarred flesh.

Your mother prays every day. Today: for you. Her words directed towards god, but they reach me and tear my insides apart.

I cannot save you.
