two features for July!
Tamrin Willey and the film "TRANNYCHASERS: A Skateboard Roadtrip"
and
Thea Hillman - San Francisco Poetry Slam Champion and author of her new
book "For Lack of a Better Word"
Tamrin Willey
was born in Massachusetts in 1978. She received her BFA from the Massachusetts
College of Art in 2002. Working with Super 8 film and video she exposes
her audience to unique underground
experiences through the eyes of a queer female-bodied tomboy skateboarder
inspired by outsider subcultures and alternative
lifestyles.
THE FILM: "TRANNYCHASERS: A Skateboard Roadtrip" is
edited documentation of two young gender variant queer friends on a roadtrip
around the Pacific Northwest and the Southwest desert. Motivated by a
passion for skateboarding, they drive over 5,000 miles in two weeks sampling
some of the most dreamed about skate terrain west of Colorado, while documenting
their transforming personas from typical 15-year-old obnoxious skater
boys to thick-skinned guarded adult women, trying to avoid trouble withing
homophobic and sexist spaces.
Thea Hillman
Has appeared in the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Berkeley Review of Fiction,
On Our Backs, and Cometbus, among others. Thea performed a birdcall on
The Tonight Show, was on the cover of the Oakland phone book, but is most
proud of her tag-team haiku championship title. Her first book, Depending
on the Light, was published by Manic D Press in 2001. Her second book,
For Lack of a Better Word, has just been published in May 2007 by Suspect
Thoughts Press. |
